About CASE Systems, Inc.

As the marketplace continues to demand more from products and services. CASE is prepared to meet our customers’ needs.

CASE Systems, Inc. was formed to acquire the call box assets from Comarco Wireless Technologies, a pioneer in both the cellular and solar industries. Through its acquisition of this business, CASE will continue CWT’s tradition of providing superior call box products for multiple applications. Additionally through this acquisition, CASE plans to expand the rich history in this marketplace.

Motorist aid call boxes have been on the sides of roads since the mid 1960s. These systems were all landline-based systems that were provided by the local telephone companies. Los Angeles County, a pioneer in transportation technologies, had one of the most extensive landline call box systems in the country. By the early 1980s these systems began to show their wear. Their usefulness had long been acknowledged and a new technology was required to replace these aging systems.

CWT developed the solar-powered cellular call box to meet this need. The cellular call box product quickly replaced landline systems throughout California. CWT began manufacturing this product in 1987. Prior to 1996, GTE Call Box Division was the sales and marketing channel for our call boxes, and in September of 1996 CWT assumed responsibility for all operations.

In January of 1997, CWT bought the Cubic Communications call box product line. Market forces created this consolidation in the call box industry. Today, CASE call box operations include the maintenance of more than 10,000 call boxes throughout California. Additionally, CASE maintains another 4,000 call boxes installed across the United States, including approximately 1,000 units owned by the New York Police Department.

This market consolidation allowed CWT to focus its engineering resources and know-how to meet changing requirements. The Bay Area Rapid Transit Authority (BART) awarded CWT a design and build project for more than 225 call boxes that are currently installed in their commuter parking lots.

CWT initiated a project with Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) on the development of smart call box systems. These smart call boxes are playing an integral part in Intermodal Transportation Systems (ITS) projects. The call boxes are serving a dual purpose: first, they serve their current function of motorist aid and second, they act as telemetry devices. They gather traffic data be it speed or traffic counts, and send the information to traffic operations centers.

While the immediate future is very predictable, CASE sees many potential opportunities for the application of its time-tested and solar-powered wireless communications devices. As the marketplace continues to demand more from products and services. CASE is prepared to meet our customers’ needs for innovative solar powered solutions. Our future growth lies beyond our call box past.
